I came to Austin in 1981 not really intending to stay. However, like many of you, I fell in love with Austin. I worked during the 1980's and into the '90s for area non-profits, particularly programs serving people with disabilities. I also worked for the Capital Area Food Bank. I met people from all walks of life and became intimately familiar with the many nuances and permutations of the "Austin Vibe."
A Passion for Automobiles
I've always loved cars. As long as I can remember, friends and co-workers have come to me for advice when it was time for them to replace an old car or add to their inventory. They knew that I read all the major car magazines and journals and kept up with the current research and literature. At one point, I owned and operated a small car-detailing business where I learned how to tell, just from looking at a car, whether it had been involved in an accident, repainted, or, in some other way, possessed major flaws that the seller was trying to hide or paint over. This is certainly an invaluable skill to have in this current business. During the past few years, we have experienced major storms that have placed thousands of cars underwater. I stay away from flood damaged vehicles.
